Library Remains Closed Through April 19
The Administration and the Board of Trustees of the Bayport-Blue Point Public Library are continuing to closely monitor developments pertaining to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. As a result of the New York State Executive Order, the Library will remain closed through April 19, 2020 in order to protect the health and well-being of our patrons and staff.
Working with our state and local partners, we continue to evaluate this situation each day. If our status changes, we will be sure to let you know right away via our website and social media channels.
Please remember that the Library provides a variety of online services, including ebooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines, and more. You can access these resources right from the Library website or mobile app.
Remember, we have suspended all late fees during this pandemic. Please keep your items safe at home for the time being and don’t worry about due dates. We will accept items when we reopen.
Library Budget Announcement
As an act of good faith toward the community in these uncertain times, the library board unanimously voted to cancel this year’s proposed budget vote which was scheduled for April 7, 2020. The library trustees decided that there will be no additional increase in our operating budget for next year. The only exception is bond payments for the new library which was approved by voters at the December 2018 bond referendum. This is due to the hardship and financial impact of the pandemic on our community. The Library plans to hold a formal trustee election – which is legally required by the New York State Department of Education – at a later date. We will update the community once we know more about this vote.
In this interactive presentation, children get a chance to listen and play real instruments from the orchestra! In the first half professional musicians from Stony Brook University Department of Music demonstrate various instruments and discuss how each sound is made and how they are different from each other. In the second part, children will have a chance to touch and play the instruments themselves! Bow a violin, slide a trombone, blow through a recorder, and even wave your arms to make sounds on a Theremin! Children are free to ask questions and everyone leaves with a musical gift.
