Side by Side: Hammerstein & Sondheim

Sunday, October 16th, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Hammerstein and Sondheim are two of the greatest writers of the American musical.  This program will include songs from some of their greatest shows, including Show Boat, South Pacific, Oklahoma, Carousel, The King and I, West Side Story, Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Follies, A Little Night Music and more. Jean and Bill will describe the lives of these remarkable men, their teacher-student relationship, and how they came to be two of the supreme innovators in American musical theater history.

The Oboe Through Time

Featuring Frederick Katzenberg on oboe and Gary Klein on piano, this performance will include the pastoral Handel Fitzwilliam Oboe Sonata, the mysterious Andriessen Ballade which is reminiscent of The Planets, the classic Mozart Adagio, and the first half of the amazing Koechlin Quatorze Pieces.  Join us for a captivating exploration of oboe music from the rich sounds of the baroque and romantic periods, to the mysterious, fascinating works of the mid-20th century.
